ELGIN, ILLINOIS (November 16, 2017) – A woman was struck by a Metra train near the Elgin station on Thursday, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 6:30 am. A woman in her 30s was apparently attempting to cross the tracks when she tripped and fell onto the tracks, and was then struck by an oncoming Metra train.
The woman was rushed to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin after the accident, and was listed as being in critical condition. The accident remains under investigation, and it is unknown at this time whether the crossing gates were down or not at the time of the accident.
