The accident happened around 1:30 pm on Saturday. Wayne Doug Zollinger, his wife Dawn, and their children Zach and Mariah were on board their twin engine Piper PA-34 Seneca as it took off from the Tri-State Steuben County Municipal Airport. As they neared Edensburg, PA, the plane began experiencing trouble. It crashed in a remote, wooded area for an unknown reason.
Doug Zollinger sustained a head injury and some lacerations, and the other three members of his family were also injured. The plane was entirely destroyed in the crash.
The FAA was on scene on Saturday to inspect the plane as part of their ongoing investigation. The accident will remain under open investigation to determine cause and liability.
