WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (August 2, 2017) – Seven people were injured in a car crashed into Marquez Bros. on the 1200 block of Freedom Boulevard just north of Lincoln Street, according to Watsonville Police Department. (map)
The accident occurred approximately after 1:30 p.m. Four children and three adults were in the store at the time of the collision. Three vehicles, for reasons unknown, veered into the store, according to Sgt. Mish Radich.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene. The children were transported to Bay Area trauma centers for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Two other adults sustained non-life threatening injuries and were treated a the scene.
There were a total of three vehicle involved in the collision. One of the drivers, a 16-year-old male, was detained and charged with reckless driving and driving without a license. Speed is considered to be factor in the storefront collision.
The road was closed for approximately two hours. The building was closed as well due to structural damage.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause.
