WACO, TEXAS (July 11, 2017) – Three people died in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 35 underneath the Valley Mills Drive overpass Tuesday afternoon, according to the Waco Police Department. (map)
A truck driver involved in the collision, identified as Harry Turner, said he looked out of his mirror behind him to find that a semi collided into two passenger vehicles which in turn slammed into his semi truck causing one of the vehicle as well as his truck to catch fire.
A woman, a child and, a truck driver of a gravel truck all died form the collision, according to Waco Police Sergeant Patrick Swanton. Sgt. Swanton said there were for semi-trucks and two passenger vehicles involved in the fiery collision.
Emergency crews responded to the scene. Texas Department of Transportation concluded that the area of the overpass that sends traffic from S. Valley Mills Drive onto the northbound lanes of I-35 were structurally compromised due to the fire from the collision.
The identities of the deceased were not yet released. Three truck drivers and two males in the other passenger vehicle survived the fiery collision.
