UKIAH, CALIFORNIA (January 21, 2017) – Erika Tyler has been identified as the woman killed in a tragic accident after a tree fell on her home early on Saturday morning, according to a local news source. (map)
Erika Tyler had expressed concerns over the massive oak tree to the landlords of her property several times, and was told removal of the tree was too expensive. Steel cables were holding up some of the larger branches of the tree, and Erika had told several people including her mother that she did not feel safe. The night of January 21st, the tree collapsed onto their home sometime between 4 and 5:00 am. The tree pinned Erika against the bed, but her boyfriend, Kyle Jones, was able to escape along with his 3 year old son. Erika’s two children, 11 and 17, were not home at the time of the accident.
Erika was extricated by emergency personnel, and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation at this time, and Erika Tyler’s parents have already stated they plan to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the owners of the property.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all family members and friends as they cope with such tragic loss,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law Firm. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all parties affected in this tragedy as they try to piece together what happened.”
