The accident happened around 4:52 pm near the Falcon Field Airport in Mesa. A single engine Lancair Evolution reported mechanical trouble and was attempting to reach the airport when it crashed near the 10th hole of the Longbow Golf Club, just half a mile short of the airport runway.
The two people on board were both tragically killed in the crash. Witnesses at the scene described the plane’s crash as a ball of fire, and it took 20 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the severe fire.
The Lancair Evolution is a fairly new plane, starting production in 2009 with a sticker price of $950,000-1.25 million. The small, four seater aircraft is designed as an amateur built kit, and comes with either a turbine engine, or a piston engine.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all family members and friends affected by this tragic accident,” said an attorney with Lexton Law Firm. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved.” is an expert in aviation crashes and is a pilot himself.
