TULARE, CALIFORNIA (April 9, 2017) – A woman was killed in a DUI related accident on Sunday afternoon, according to a local news source. (map)
Around 12:35 pm, officers responded to reports of what appeared to be an inebriated teenager stumbling to his car in the 1400 block of Hillman Street. Officers did not locate the car and teenager on Hillman, but officers spotted his car on Oaks Street and Pleasant Avenue. The 18 year old refused to pull over, and sped up instead, running through a red light at the intersection of North J Street and West Prosperity Avenue, colliding with a 2003 Nissan Altima carrying four people.
A 50 year old woman inside the Altima was rushed to a hospital with major injuries, and she died a short time later at the hospital. Three other people inside the Altima were hospitalized as well in unknown condition. The 18 year old continued driving and was stopped a short time later, arrested, and identified as Jace Daniel Freitas. The accident remains under investigation.
