The accident happened around 7:30 pm. A car had overturned, and a charter bus was blocking traffic. The driver of the bus was placing reflective triangles in the road when a CHP officer arrived and briefly spoke to the driver and witnesses. The CHP officer then got back into his vehicle and began reversing, accidentally running over the bus driver.
The bus driver, identified as Steve Holmes, was rushed to a hospital in Reno, where he tragically was pronounced dead a short time later. It is unknown if the bus was involved in the original accident or had just stopped as a witness. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
