SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (December 6, 2017) – The truck driver in a deadly Bay Bridge crash that claimed the life of CalTrans employee Si Si Han had previous convictions for drug possession, according to a recently released report.
The accident happened early Monday morning, when toll booth worker Si Si Han had just come on for her shift 10 minutes before. A box truck, rented from Monarch Truck Rentals and driven by a 32 year old man, hurtled down the road towards the toll booths. The truck slammed into several vehicles and then into the toll booth where Si Si Han was working, with enough force to throw the booth several feet and shear the truck in half.
46 year old Si Si Han was tragically killed in the accident. Daniel Berk, the truck driver, and his passenger were both thrown from the truck and seriously injured. Four others in various cars struck by the truck sustained injuries as well after the accident, and some were hospitalized. Daniel Berk was arrested after the accident on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The accident is still under investigation. Recently released reports indicate Daniel was arrested in 2013 for possession of Methamphetamine, and in 2014 for possession of stolen property. According to a report by MercuryNews, Daniel had a suspended drivers license from 2012 to June of 2017.
The investigation is ongoing, and updates are continuing to be released. Lexton Law is still looking into this tragic accident and will continue to update this article accordingly.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all the family members and friends of Si Si Han as they cope with such tragic loss,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all parties affected in this tragedy as they try to piece together what happened.”
