TEMECULA, CALIFORNIA (February 9, 2017) – A fatal collision was reported on Thursday morning, at approximately 11 a.m., on Los Gatos Road, near Carancho Road, on the southern boundary of the Santa Rosa Ecological Preserve, according to the California Highway Patrol. (map)
32-year-old Haroute Barbarian of Corona, had stopped in the southbound lane of the two-lane road when his dump truck experienced mechanical trouble. Barbarian got out of the vehicle to inspect it, and about that time, the other dump truck approached going south at an unknown speed, plowing into the back of Barbarian’s rig. Barbarian was knocked down an embankment as a result of the crash, suffering minor injuries. The other driver, identified as a 47-year-old Thomas Dietrich of Moreno Valley, suffered fatal injuries and Riverside County Fire Department personnel pronounced the other driver dead at the scene. Barbarian was transported to Temecula Valley Hospital for treatment.
Police are investigating the accident to determine the cause.
