Matthew Barnec Arrested After Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (December 8, 2016) – Three people were killed and one person has been arrested after a hit-and-run accident near Highway 99 in Stockton, reported FOX40. (map)
The fatal crash occurred at about 7:40 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of 99 Frontage Road and Moreland Street.
John Eric Stevens, 27, of Stockton, was found unresponsive in the road. John Stevens had been hit by a car near the intersection of Hwy 99 Frontage Road and Moreland Street while riding a bicycle.
Sadly, John Stevens was later pronounced dead.
Police discovered a 1997 Honda Civic just south of Hammer Lane with major front-end damage. The driver of the vehicle had fled the scene however, two passengers, Raymond Lawrence Schenone, 23, and Michelle Joanne Vargas, 23, were found dead inside the car. Their cause of death has not been released.
The driver of the Honda Civic, Matthew Barnec, 23, was found and arrested Friday. Matthew Barnec was charged at the San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of felony hit and run. Further charges may be added pending the investigation of Raymond Schenone’s and Michelle Vargas’ deaths.
