The accident happened around 1:00 am on the westbound 60 Freeway, near Garfield Avenue. A heavy duty tow truck was hauling a semi truck when the big rig’s tires locked up. The tow truck pulled to the side of the freeway, and the tow truck driver and his passenger, the driver of the semi, exited the vehicle to examine the problem. The tow truck driver did not realize where his passenger was, and moved the tow truck forward, running over the driver of the big rig.
Stephen Lamb, a 70 year old semi truck driver from Moreno Valley, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. The accident remains under open investigation at this time to determine cause and liability in this tragic accident.
