OCSD Lieutenant John Roche reported that an SUV crashed into Hurst around 2:40 a.m. and fled the scene before authorities arrived. It is unknown whether Hurst was on his bike or walking within the crosswalk at the time of the accident.
Lieutenant Roche states that Hurst was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The hit-and-run driver is still at large.
“It saddens me that an innocent victim has been killed at the hands of a reckless hit-and-run driver. It’s only a matter of time before authorities locate the responsible individual and bring justice upon them,” said a California hit-and-run accident and personal injury lawyer.
