KELSO, WASHINGTON (October 27, 2017) – Sonya Sussanna Wallace was struck by a train and killed on Friday at a train crossing with a fatal history, according to a local news source. (map)
32 year old Sonya Sussanna Wallace was riding as a passenger in a vehicle being driven by 29 year old Gildardo Cruz Vera Strickler. The two were following a vehicle that had just crossed the tracks on a private road off of Pleasant Hill Road that led to the Horseshoe Park Estates. As Vera Strickler’s vehicle crossed over the tracks, it was struck by a northbound Amtrak train.
Sonya Wallace was tragically pronounced dead as a result of the accident. Gildardo Strickler was also sadly killed. The accident remains under investigation at this time. Initial reports indicate this crossing has a recent history of fatal accidents. In January of 2015, a woman was hit by a train and killed at the same crossing. The crossing appears to be equipped with signs, but not with crossing arms.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all family members and friends as they cope with such tragic loss,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all parties affected in this tragedy as they try to piece together what happened.”
