SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (December 2, 2017) – Si Si Han was tragically killed in a collision on Saturday after a rental truck crashed into the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened on Sunday morning. 32 year old Daniel Berk rented a truck from Monarch Truck Center out of San Jose, and filled the truck with stage equipment. As he approached the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza, he did not slow down. Instead, he plowed into four or five cars and then the toll booth, sending the toll booth flying and ripping the truck almost in half.
The toll booth worker, 46 year old Si Si Han, was tragically killed as a result of the accident. Si Si Han had just come on shift ten minutes before the accident, and was a 10 year veteran of the CalTrans department. She is survived by her husband Ryan Saw and her 10 year old daughter Ashly. Si was not even supposed to be on shift that day, but had come into help after an early morning call from her supervisor.
Daniel Berk and his passenger were both thrown from the vehicle and sustained critical injuries. Four people in the cars that were involved were also injured after the crash. Daniel was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Monarch Truck Center, the company Daniel rented the truck from, deals with sales, service and rentals of large scale trucks. They have an office in San Jose, and an office in Union City. Daniel Berk reportedly rented from the San Jose location.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all the family members and friends of Si Si Han as they cope with such tragic loss,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all parties affected in this tragedy as they try to piece together what happened.”
