IDAHO FALLS, IDAHO (June 28, 2017) – 65 year old Shirley Williams has been identified as the woman killed in a tragic accident on Interstate 15 on Wednesday afternoon, according to a local new source. (map)
The accident happened around 4:55 pm on Interstate 15. A 59 year old man identified as Dirk Johnson was driving a gravel truck northbound on Interstate 15. As Johnson approached traffic that was beginning to slow for a construction zone, he was unable to adequately reduce speed and veered into opposing lanes. He struck a pickup truck towing a horse trailer head on, then struck a Nissan Maxima behind the pickup truck.
Shirley Williams, the 65 year old driver of the pickup truck, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital as a result of the accident. The horse in her trailer was also killed in the crash. The driver of the Maxima, 44 year old Mark Weidner, did not sustain any injuries. The driver of the gravel truck, Dirk Johnson, was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and booked into Bingham County jail. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
