The accident happened around 1:23 pm, at the train crossing near 1st Street and Highway 79/63. A 2015 Chevrolet Cruze was heading over the train tracks carrying three women, when it was struck by an eastbound Union Pacific train.
27 year old Shamri Cole-Cox and 28 year old Talisa Cannon were both killed in the accident. The driver, 25 year old Genesis Dendy, was critically injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The crossing where the women were struck is equipped only with a stop sign, no warning lights or crossing arms are present. A month ago, a pedestrian was reportedly struck by a train and killed at the same intersection.
