The accident happened around 12:15 a.m. on the eastbound side of Highway 50 near Howe Avenue. 22-year-old Sergio Jimenez was traveling eastbound in a second when for an unknown reason he struck the steel guardrail on the south shoulder, sending him spinning back onto the highway. His car came to rest sideways in the slow lane, where his vehicle was broadsided by a second car. The force of the collision sent both vehicles back into the guardrail on the side of the road, and caused the engine from Sergio Jimenez’s car to come to rest in the slow lane where it was struck by a third vehicle.
Sergio Guadalupe Corona Jimenez was tragically pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. The accident remains under active investigation at this time to determine cause and liability.
