ATLANTA, GEORGIA (June 9, 2017) – At least one person has been killed and dozens more have been injured in a rollover bus crash on Camp Creek Parkway, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 3:30 pm on Camp Creek Parkway near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. A bus carrying student missionaries from Mount Zion Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama was on its way to the airport to catch a plane to Africa for a mission trip. The bus was reportedly attempting to change lanes when it crashed into a Chrysler. The impact caused the bus to swerve to the left, losing control and entering the median. The bus overturned and rolled through the median before slamming into a westbound Mercedes.
Sara Harmening, a 17 year old girl, was tragically killed in the collision. Four others were reportedly in critical condition, three in fair condition, and two were considered stable out of the 38 total injured in the accident. The accident remains under open investigation at this time to determine cause and liability. The bus was reportedly chartered to take the students to the airport, but the owner of the bus company is unknown at this time.
