SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA (February 9, 2017) – A 54 year old man and a 34 year old man were working to clean up debris from a landslide on Thursday around 12:07 p.m. on Highway 17 near Vine Hill Road, when they were hit by a dump truck that was backing up, according to a local news source. (map)
The 54 year old man, identified as Bobby Gill was tragically pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. The 34 year old man, identified as Stephen Whittier, was trapped under the dump truck. After being extricated, he was rushed to Valley Medical Center where he is expected to recover.
Police are currently investigating the accident.
