“Fatal Boating Accident”
SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA (July 9, 2017) – A boating accident resulting in one person dead after sailboat overturned approximately one mile from the shore of the Santa Barbara Harbor Sunday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department. (map)
The incident was report at approximately 2:45 p.m. The initial reports said that there was a crash involving a sailboat and jet ski near Stearns Wharf. Santa Barbara Police Department later concluded there was no crash. The sailboat overturned.
One of the persons on board the sailboat died during the sailboat overturning. Three other occupants sustained no injuries. The identities of the victims and the extent of there injuries were not released.
Police officials concluded that drug and alcohol were in factors of the deadly incident. The Stearns Wharf entrance was closed for investigation and rescue efforts. The cause of the incident was unclear at the time of the incident.
