SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA (April 6, 2017) – A cyclist was involved in a vehicle collision on a mountainous road Thursday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. (map)

The accident occurred on the 2900 block of Gilbraltor Road. The 63-year-old male cyclist, traveling at a high rate of speed, collided with a Nissan Versa, according to Santa Barbara County Fire Department Capt. Dave Zaniboni.

The cyclist sustained major injuries. Rescue crews were called to the scene and transported the cyclist to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment. The cyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The driver of the Nissan sustained no injuries. an investigation is ongoing.
