SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA (February 9, 2017) – A woman trying to mourn the death of her cousin on Thursday night was killed in a hit and run near Grand Avenue and 17th Street, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 10:40 pm. Trisha Irene Verdugo was in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree over on Grand Avenue and 17th Street. Her cousin, 23 year old Joseph Frank Garcia, had been shot and killed in the parking lot the previous night. As Trisha Verdugo attempted to mourn his death, she became involved in an altercation with a motorist in the parking lot who struck her and then fled the scene.
Trisha Irene Verdugo was tragically pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident. The investigation is ongoing at this time as authorities attempt to find the hit and run driver who struck Trisha Verdugo. Initial reports indicate the vehicle that struck her was a dark colored sedan.
