SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA (November 19, 2017) – A small plane carrying three people crashed into a home off of Evelyn Drive in San Jose on Sunday afternoon, according to a local news source. (map)
The plane, a Cessna 172 single engine plane, had taken off from the Reid-Hillview airport around 3:00 pm carrying a student pilot, an instructor, and a passenger. Shortly after take off, the plane began experiencing engine problems and turned back towards the airport. The plane was unable to maintain altitude, and it swooped over rooftops and parked cars before crashing into the garage of a home in the 2100 block of Evelyn Avenue.
The three on board, two women and a man, were all injured in the accident. Two were reportedly in critical condition after the crash and one had sustained moderate injuries. The residents in the home were unhurt in the accident, and were the first on scene to assist those in the downed plane. The current condition of those involved in the crash is unknown at this time, but the crash remains under active investigation.
The plane is registered to McClelland Aviation Inc, a company based out of San Jose. Initial reports indicate Michael McClelland is the owner of McClelland Aviation, and the business is registered to his home address. A Cessna 172 crashed in New Mexico earlier in November, killing all four people on board.
