SAN JOSE FEMALE PASSENGER KILLED IN CAR CRASH AFTER VEHICLE VEHCLE VEERS OFF I-680
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA (JUNE 20, 2017)– A 65-year-old woman from Gilroy was tragically killed in box truck accident when the truck she was riding in veered off the Interstate 680 freeway, hit a light pole, crashed into a tree and then caught fire. According to the police report, the accident occurred at about 2:50 p.m. in the southbound lanes as the box truck was approaching the North Capitol Avenue Offramp.
The yellow-colored box truck began swerving into the right-hand shoulder of the freeway, according to the CHP report. The impact of the crash sheared a light pole that ended up crashing on top of the truck, causing the truck to then crash into a tree. This ignited a spark that caused a brush fire in some foliage next to the crash.
A 54-year-old Gilroy man who was driving the truck was able to escape the crash and responding police also helped four other truck passengers escape the truck fire before the entire truck was overtaken by flames. The 65-year-old woman however, died from her injuries.
