“Solo Vehicle Fatality”
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA (June 18, 2017) – A 65-year-old passenger of a box truck was involved in a solo collision on Interstate 680 near the North Capitol Avenue off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. (map)
The accident occurred at approximately 2:51 p.m. The box truck was traveling in the southbound lanes of I-680 when it veered to the right. The box truck then collided with a utility pole which struck the box truck. The box truck then ran into a tree which sparked a fire, according to CHP officials.
The 54-year-old driver of the box truck freed himself from the wreckage to assist the other passengers in the truck. The 65-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The three other occupants in the truck were freed as well. Two of the occupants were transported to the hospital for treatment of major injuries while another passenger along with the driver sustained moderate injuries.
