SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (December 8, 2017) – 30 people were injured after a charter bus overturned on Highway 101 near Cesar Chavez Street on Friday, according to an article by ABC7. (map)
The accident happened around 8:06 pm on the southbound side of the 101 Freeway near Cesar Chavez Street. A charter bus carrying 29 people to a holiday party in Palo Alto from San Francisco began weaving back and forth on the freeway. The driver lost control, striking the center median and overturning, sliding down the highway on its side.
All 29 passengers were injured in the accident, as was the driver. 4 of those injured sustained serious injuries, nine suffered moderate injuries, and the rest sustained minor injuries. Most were released from the hospital, but some still remain hospitalized. The injuries varied from cuts and scrapes to broken bones.
The driver of the bus passed a field sobriety test, and authorities do not believe any sort of intoxication played a part in the crash. The bus belongs to a company called Charter Brothers based in Oakland. The company released a statement saying they do not believe the bus was speeding, and that the driver is one of their more experienced drivers.
