SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (February 23, 2017) – A tow truck driver was killed after being struck by a DUI driver on Thursday afternoon, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 5:00 p.m. on the eastbound side of Highway 52, near Santo Road. A Roadone Tow Truck driver got out of his vehicle to hook up a disabled garbage truck on the right shoulder of the highway. He was then struck by a man in a Ford SUV, who immediately fled the scene.
The tow truck driver was tragically pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. An off-duty police officer was able to stop the suspect vehicle a mile down the freeway, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
