SAN CLEMENTE, CALIFORNIA (APRIL 14, 2017) – California Highway Patrol reported an accident early Friday morning on the 5 Freeway. (map)
The collision occurred around 1:40 a.m., when a vehicle that police had been pursuing, but lost sight of, was reported to have been involved in an accident. The suspect vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle as the driver was going the wrong way in the northbound lanes. Both vehicles were described as grey sedans. The suspect fled the scene, but officers and K9 were deployed to search for the driver.
At least one person was injured; no other details are available at this time. The suspect was apprehended later in a nearby backyard of a home. CHP is currently investigating the crash.
