SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (March 5, 2017) – A woman that was struck and killed by a Union Pacific train on West North Temple on Sunday afternoon has been identified, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 4:15 pm on the tracks in the 500 block of West North Temple, in a fenced off area that was supposed to be inaccessible to pedestrians. Video footage shows 54 year old Genevieve Blackwater walking near the tracks and seeming disoriented before she was struck by a Union Pacific freight train. The footage also shows that Genevieve attempted to get clear of the tracks, but was unable to do so.
Genevieve Blackwater was tragically declared dead at the scene as a result of her injuries. The accident remains under investigation, as authorities are unsure as to how Genevieve accessed the area she was in.
