SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (April 11, 2017) – A Union Pacific freight train struck a pedestrian in a fatal accident near American River on Tuesday afternoon, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 4:32 pm near the railroad overcrossing of the Capitol City Freeway, near C Street and Lanatt Street. A pedestrian was struck by a train for an unknown reason.
The pedestrian, who remains unidentified, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation to determine cause and liability, and a Union Pacific representative was reportedly on the scene to determine how the collision happened.
