CHP Investigating Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident
RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA (December 9, 2016) – An 18-year-old Riverside man was severely injured when he was struck by a vehicle while pushing his disabled vehicle on the shoulder of the 91 East Freeway near Madison Street. (map)
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at about 9:15 p.m. on December 9th, 2016, when the victim’s Chevrolet Tahoe SUV had stalled. The young man was pushing his disabled vehicle down the shoulder off-ramp of the 91 East Freeway when a red sedan crashed into him. The suspect vehicle failed to stop to render aid and fled the scene.
The victim suffered major injuries and was transported to Riverside Community Hospital in serious condition.
According to witnesses and the CHP, the hit-and-run driver continued on the off-ramp, went southbound on Madison Street and then westbound on Indian Avenue. Police believe the car sustained damage to the front passenger side and also has a broken taillight.
