REDDING, CALIFORNIA (March 15, 2017) – A boy was struck by a train and killed on Wednesday morning near Highway 273, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 8:45 am hear Highway 273 (also known as Market Street). A boy was running across the train tracks from a Redding Area Bus Authority stop, on the east side of the Highway, when he was struck by a Union Pacific train.

The boy was tragically pronounced dead at the scene after the accident. People that live near the intersection say it is a point of worry, as one has to cross the tracks to get to the crosswalk from the east side of the highway. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
