FORT WRIGHT, KENTUCKY (October 17, 2017) – A woman was critically injured after a tree collapsed onto a wedding party in Kentucky on Friday, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened at the Lookout Heights Civic Club. Rebecca, the maid of honor for a wedding scheduled for Saturday, was at the event hall decorating in preparation for the wedding. Rebecca and bridesmaid Heather McNamara were sitting under a canopy outside when an ash tree on a nearby hillside suddenly cracked, crashing down to the ground and pinning both women.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and used chainsaws to remove the branches pinning the women. Heather McNamara was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, and Rebecca Wright was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The accident is under active investigation to determine cause and liability. Initial inspections indicate the tree was dead, and it is unknown why it had not been inspected.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all family members and friends as they cope with such tragic loss,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all parties affected in this tragedy as they try to piece together what happened.”
