A Cessna 208B took off from Port Heiden to Perryville when the emergency locater began sounding at around 2:00 pm. Grant Aviation, the registered operator of the plane, launched two search aircraft and were able to locate the downed pane around 5:45 pm in a remote area near Chignik.
The pilot, 54 year old Gabriele Cianetti from Anchorage, was tragically confirmed to have been killed in the crash. Cianetti was the only person on board the plane at the time of the accident. The investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time.
