“Investigation Ongoing”
PHOENIX, ARIZONA (December 13, 2016) – Two people were killed and two others were injured in a collision on Interstate 10 on Tuesday, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident occurred on the westbound 1-10 transition ramp to the 202 Loop near Pecos Road on Tuesday afternoon shortly after 1:00 pm. An SUV traveling the wrong way on Interstate 10 crashed head on into a Magic Pest Control truck.
The two people inside the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. The two men inside the Magic Pest Control truck were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.
Wrong way crashes have become a serious issue in Arizona. From 2004-2014, there were 245 wrong way crashes, resulting in 91 fatalities. The Arizona Department of Transportation put up hundreds of large “wrong way” or “do not enter” signs along freeway off-ramps, but their effectiveness is unknown.
