“Solo Vehicle Accident”
PALMDALE, CALIFORNIA (April 13, 2017) – 24-year-old Irene Tafuya Esparza was involved in a solo car crash on the southbound lanes of Highway 14 at Pearblossom Highway Thursday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol. (map)
The accident occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. Witnesses had seen a 1993 Lexus, driven by Esparza, crossing the southbound lanes and colliding into the concrete median. The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to overturn. There were three adolescent children in the vehicle age 2, 4, and 8 who did not have the proper seating restraints on at the time of the collision. The 8-year-old was thrown from the vehicle, according to CHP.
Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene and found that four victims sustained injuries. The victims of the crash were airlifted to County-USC Medical Center for treatment of injuries. The identities and severity of their injuries not released. Authorities concluded that drugs and or alcohol were not factors in the collision. An investigation is ongoing.
