OXNARD, CALIFORNIA (May 15, 2017) – A child was injured after a DUI driver plowed his vehicle into a house on Juneberry Place near Lantana Street early Sunday morning, according to police officials. (map)
The DUI driver was traveling in an SUV going north on Lantana Street before driving off the roadway and crashing into the home located at the 1200 block of Juneberry Place. The driver smashed his vehicle into a bedroom where three girls were sleeping. One of the three girls sustained injuries.
The driver of the SUV was a 19-year-old man who attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended shortly afterwards by police officers. Police had the help of a witness in order to find the man. The SUV driver was found to have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time he ran into the home.
Police are still investigating the accident.
“It’s unfortunate that motorists continue to drive under the influence, endangering the lives of other drivers and innocent bystanders. Prayers are with the young victim, their friends and family during this time,” said an Oxnard pedestrian accident lawyer.
