“Investigation Ongoing”
ORANGE, CALIFORNIA (January 30, 2017) – A CHP officer was injured in an accident on Monday evening on the 55 Freeway near Lincoln Avenue, according to a local news source. (map)
A couple returning from food tasting for their upcoming wedding had vehicle trouble and pulled to the side of the highway. Two CHP officers responded to the scene and parked their vehicle to block the couples, using their lights to alert nearby motorists of the disabled vehicle. A short time later, an AAA vehicle showed up to the scene to assist the couple, and one of the CHP officers returned to their car and sat inside as the tow truck assisted the disabled car. A 39 year old woman driving under the influence of alcohol then slammed into the back of the patrol car at 65 MPH with the officer inside.
The CHP officer inside the patrol car suffered moderate injuries in the collision and was taken to the hospital. The drunk driver, identified as 39 year old Christy DeMetriades, suffered only minor injuries in the accident and was arrested for felony DUI. The investigation is ongoing.
“It’s unfortunate that motorists under the influence disregard the negative effects that may ensue from driving under the influence. Drunk drivers continue to endanger the safety of all other drivers,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law Firm, a California car accident and personal injury attorney.
