The accident happened around 5:15 am on Sunday. A car pulled over to the eastbound side of State Route 76, and a woman exited the vehicle. She crossed the eastbound lanes and reached the center median, then attempted to cross westbound traffic and was struck.

The woman tragically was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident as a result of her injuries. The driver that struck the pedestrian was determine not to have been under the influence, and the investigation is ongoing to determine cause and liability.

“According to experts drivers are responsible the majority of the time for pedestrian accidents. These collisions occur when drivers are careless and fail to yield in a crosswalk or when they turn right on a red light without looking out for a pedestrian,” said a California pedestrian accident and personal injury lawyer.
