The fire broke out in a warehouse used as a living space for artists, known as the Ghost Ship. The night of the fire, it was being used to host an electronic music dance party, otherwise known as a rave. Vanessa Plotkin and her roommate, Jennifer Morris, were both attending the rave at the time of the fire.
Vanessa and Jennifer were both confirmed to have been victims of the fire, which killed 36 people the night of December 2nd. The investigation into the fire is still ongoing as authorities attempt to decipher why the warehouse was being used as a living space despite not being zoned to do so.
