Michele was described as being creative and talented by friends who knew her. A fashion designer that appreciated art, Michele and her long term partner, Wolfgang Renner, were attending a rave at an Oakland warehouse known locally as the Ghost Ship the night of December 2nd. A fire started in the rear of the warehouse and spread quickly due to clutter from people living in the space.

Michele Sylvan and her partner, Wolfgang Renner, were both tragically trapped in the fire and were killed along with 34 other people. The fire remains under investigation as authorities attempt to decipher what started the fire.
