NOVATO, CALIFORNIA (February 2, 2017) – A man was killed in a tragic accident on Thursday morning on the 101 Freeway near Atherton Avenue, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 12:30 am on the southbound side of the 101 Freeway near Atherton Avenue. An unidentified pedestrian was struck by a car between the hours of 12:30 and 1:00 am, and the involved vehicle fled the scene.

A passing semi-truck driver saw the man in the road and stopped, calling the authorities. Responding medical personnel tragically declared the man dead at the scene. He has been identified as Daniel Glenn Matis, a 56 year old man from San Francisco. The accident remains under investigation and initial reports indicate the involved vehicle is likely a metallic silver 2006-2013 Nissan Versa with front right end damages.
