HAWTHORNE, CALIFORNIA (December 21, 2017) – Nine people were injured in a crash on Marine Avenue in Hawthorne on Thursday morning, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 11:00 am Thursday morning, at the intersection of Marine Avenue and Prairie Avenue. Police responding to a report of a burglary in progress began to give chase to a vehicle believed to be involved. As the chase commenced, the suspect vehicle crashed into several other vehicles. The impact was enough to caused at least two children to be ejected from one of the affected vehicles.
Nine people, including four children, were injured as a result of the crash. One of the cars was described as “mangled”, and several people were trapped inside their vehicles after the accident. All four children injured were rushed to a nearby trauma center after the accident with unspecified injuries.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was apprehended at the scene by law enforcement. The identity of those injured in the accident has not been released, but the investigation is ongoing.
