65-Year-Old Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Nice-Lucerne Cutoff, East of Westlake Drive
NICE, CA – A man, 65, was killed in a two vehicle collision that occurred Wednesday afternoon on the Nice-Lucerne Cutoff, east of Westlake Drive.
At about 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, a 63-year-old Lakeport man was driving his 2001 Dodge going westbound. The victim, a 65-year-old man from Lucerne, was accompanied by a 60-year-old woman, and was headed eastbound in a 2000 Toyota.
For reasons unknown, the Lakeport man driving the Dodge swerved to the right and then over-corrected, crossing double-yellow lines. He then broad-sided the Toyota being driven by the victim, causing the Toyota to overturn. The male victim driving the Toyota sustained fatal injuries from the rollover. Emergency and rescue workers pronounced him dead at the accident site.
The Lakeport man driving the Dodge did not suffer any injuries. According to the police report, all the accident victims were wearing their seat-belts. The cause of the accident is still unknown and the accident remains under investigation.
