“Investigation Ongoing”
NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA (August 13, 2017) – A man was killed after he was struck by the propeller of the boat he was captaining on Sunday, according to a local news source. (map)
The accident happened around 2:50 pm near the jetty at Newport Beach. A 70 year old man jumped off his boat to go for a swim, leaving other passengers aboard the large double decker boat. When the man attempted to swim back towards the boat, someone reversed the boat towards him to make it easier for him to get on board. Unfortunately, the man was caught by the boat’s propeller.
The man was quickly pulled from the water and passengers attempted to perform CPR as they rushed for the dock. Coast Guard officials and the Newport Beach Fire Department met the boat at the dock, where paramedics tragically pronounced him dead.
“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all family members and friends as they cope with such tragic loss,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law Firm. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all parties affected in this tragedy as they try to piece together what happened.”
