NEW YORK: 33 Injured in Cosmetics Plant Explosion

NEW WINDSOR, NEW YORK (November 20, 2017) – 33 people were hurt after a chemical plant explosion in New York on Monday morning, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 10:30 am at the Verla International plant on Temple Hill Road in New Windsor. Multiple explosions rocked the facility, injuring 26 workers and 7 responding firemen. The black smoke that spilled from the building was said to be “acrid”, and it was believed a chemical fire was burning in the building.

All 33 injured are expected to survive the accident, but most were hospitalized with injuries ranging from serious to minor. Earlier this year, the plant was hit with nine violations from OSHA regarding exit maintenance and the use of flammable liquids . 6 of those 9 violations were reportedly “serious”.
