MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA (January 18, 2017) – A fatal car accident killed at least one person on Wednesday afternoon on Highway 1, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened around 1:30 pm on the southbound side of Highway 1 near Fremont Street. A blue Ford reportedly crashed into a tree for unknown reasons. A second car was potentially involved but authorities cannot confirm those reports at this time.

At least one person sustained fatal injuries in the accident, which remains under investigation at this time. Authorities are attempting to determine if a second vehicle was truly involved, and deciphering cause and liability.
