Nicholas Kliewer, 50, was crossing Sylvan Avenue – also Staniford Avenue – east of McHenry Avenue just after midnight on Saturday when he was struck by the westbound Saturn.
The driver of the vehicle has been described only as a Latino male. The driver exited his vehicle, looked at Nicholas Kliewer, got back into his car, and backed over him before fleeing the scene.
Shortly after the crash, police learned the Saturn was involved in a second hit-and-run crash with a parked car in the 3600 block of Chippewa Street, about 2.5 miles to the west.
The suspect driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Tragically, Nicholas Kliewer died at the scene.
