Michael Flores Killed in Accident on Base Line Street near Davidson Street

“Tragic DUI Accident”

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA (April 27, 2017) – A 3 year old little boy was killed in a tragic accident on Base Line Street on Thursday evening, according to a local news source. (map)

The accident happened on Base Line Street near Davidson Street in San Bernardino. A father was walking with his children in a marked crosswalk, holding his children by the hand. Several cars had stopped at the crosswalk to let the family pass, as the crosswalk is marked but there is no signal light at the intersection. A 34 year female DUI driver in a Chevrolet pickup truck veered around the stopped car and struck 3 year old Michael Flores. Michael’s father attempted to pull him out of the way but was unable to do so in time.

Michael Flores was tragically pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. After striking the child, the Chevrolet pickup truck continued down the street, striking a white Lexus before finally coming to a stop two blocks from the accident. The driver has been identified as 34 year old Crystal Fuentes. Fuentes was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. Further investigation reveals that Crystal Fuentes has a long arrest history involving DUI and public intoxication.

The intersection has long been a source of concern for residents in the area. Several say they do not walk across the street even though there is a marked crosswalk, because of the lack of a traffic signal. A resident living a few yards away refuses to let her children cross Base Line as a result of the unsafe crossing. The same resident also bore witness to the accident on Thursday evening, and said that a signal is desperately needed at the intersection.

“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort all the family members and friends of Michael Flores as they cope with such tragic loss,” said the attorneys from Lexton Law Firm. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all parties affected in this tragedy as they try to piece together what happened.”
